When I was about 8, I had a birthday party where we went bowling. My Father took about 8 or 9 of us to the local bowling alley. We went bowling and all got back in his car to go back to my house. This was back in the old days so we all piled in to his big 2 door Plymouth - 3 kids in the front and 5 or 6 in the back.

Kids birthday parties -- so much planning, over so quickly and you're exhausted trying to deal with 12 five year olds. But I do have a very fond memory from one year.

My two sons are three years apart but their birthdays are within two weeks of each other. One particular year I wasn't working and decided to bake them each a special cake. One son wanted a Thomas the Train cake, the other Spiderman. So I bought the molds and the coloring for frosting and the various frosting tips.
